Travel Capsule Recap

SO, recap on my travel capsule! I hit the ground running when I got back home since I went to work the day I got back (Friday) AND worked the weekend, as well as a double shift on Monday. BUT, here we are! Yay! Anyway... I brought a total of 13 outfits, 8 were dressy and 5 were casual. After arriving and living in the same few outfits for two weeks, I can honestly say I LOVE the clothes I brought, which is a huge accomplishment since I tend to get tired of the same pieces. I did a load of laundry mid-way through the weeks, which totally saved me (and everyone in smell-shot... like ear-shot but for smell). Something that I did not plan on was how cold the weather would be. My weather app forecasted sunny, Texas-like days but that did not happen at all! Sooooo, I had to get creative and think up some alternate combos.

I layered this tan sweater over my gingham dress, olive tee shirt, and I wore it by itself. It was definitely a life-saver since we had lots of rain and almost everyday was 50 - 60 degrees.

IMG_0050.JPG

Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to wear my patterned shorts or sandals. But! I did discover how comfortable my mules and midi heels really are. I wore them the whole time with zero foot pain to follow!

While in Kansas City I purchased this super cute overall skirt from H&M! Not sure what its actual name is, but that's what I'm going with. It really elevates the whole overall scene since it's a skirt instead of shorts, which is so neat! Since denim is so popular this summer, I'm excited to have this new piece to bring a cute spin on something classic like overalls!

That's a wrap for this recap. Send some questions and comments my way, I'd love to hear some feedback on the whole capsule idea!

Till next time, peace.

The Packing Experience

Packing. Some people just throw clothes in a bag and call it done. Others procrastinate packing until the night before the trip. Whatever type "packer" (shout out to Green Bay) you are, I think it's safe to say we don't usually feel warm and fuzzy when pondering what to pack. So I thought I'd post my stress-free creative process since I'm allergic to doing stuff like this if it isn't pure fun.  ;)

So here's the scoop: I'll be gone for two weeks. 3 days of travel, 10 nights of leading worship and attending conferences. I foresee needing outfits that start as casual layers since during the day I'll be hanging and exploring, but then I will add jackets and jewelry or a "third layer" to dress up those daytime outfits for the dressier themed nights. I give you, my travel capsule:  3 dresses   1 jumpsuit 2 pairs of leggings (one cotton, one pleather)  2 pairs of jeans (one blue, one black)   3 lounge tee shirts 1 sweater 2 denim jackets (a little extravagant, I'll admit... but I love my denim too much to leave it behind)  4 fancy tops   1 pair of lounge shorts 1 swimsuit 2 gym outfits (don't worry, I plan on washing)  4 pairs of shoes (boots, slip on sandals, sneakers, and heels)  I did a little research and decided that a travel capsule would be a fun experiment to try these next couple of weeks. All the outfits are geared towards a touristy vibe (i.e. something comfortable to live in during the long days, but also the cutest of what I own.) Since I won't be doing anything outdoorsy I didn't include tank tops, hiking clothes, etc. so this capsule is good for a relaxing trip spent mostly indoors with light walking through the town and shopping (duh.) Let's take a look at each of the outfits up close!

4 fancy tops

1 pair of lounge shorts

1 swimsuit

2 gym outfits (don't worry, I plan on washing)

4 pairs of shoes (boots, slip on sandals, sneakers, and heels)

Let's take a look at each of the outfits up close!

Outfit number one is my denim dress from Madewell. It's very comfy and leans on the more casual side, but can be dressed up with some cute heels and a bandana. For platform performances I will pair it with leggings, but for walking around town it's a cute length to be worn without leggings as well.

I'm planning on pairing my other two dresses with pleather leggings and midi heels. With gold jewelry details the outfits will be "Sunday morning" ready, and the midi heels and Daniel Wellington watch will make for a trendy addition.

JUMPSUITS. I'm in a little bit of a craze right now. They feel like the swanky footy pajamas that dominated your childhood, but are socially acceptable as a classy and put together ensemble. I'm super excited about this new one from Anthropologie! It's made out of extremely cozy material and pairs well with almost any shoe. I plan on wearing it more than once and switching up the shoes and jewelry cause it's so versatile!

IMG_0050.JPG

Of course I brought a couple of casual tee shirts and a pair of knock around shorts. Supposedly the weather will be chilly, in which case I can toss on either of my two denim jackets for a two-in-one elevated touch and wind breaker.

IMG_0051.JPG

In case it is too cold for shorts, I have a tee shirt and jeans as a knock around outfit as well. I can elevate this look by tucking in the shirt and replacing the slip on sandals with mules. I just love the colors of this tee shirt, it's truly all American!

IMG_0052.JPG

Next I have a fancy knotted tee and off-the-shoulder top for a fabulous jeans and blouse combo. I plan on styling the knotted tee with my gold cuff necklace and the off-the-shoulder with my favorite accessory, a bandana! The mules really bring the color scheme and over all style of the outfits home.

IMG_0053.JPG

In prep for the chillier days, I brought my favorite layering sweater. It's cute and preppy by itself, but also looks great over my gingham dress or denim button down dress should I be in a sweater layering mood. It's definitely a good piece to accompany any type style capsule!

IMG_0054.JPG

This number speaks for itself with its fancy v-neck wrap around look. It's silky and smooth, and only needs a small touch of dainty jewelry to complete it! I tone down the super "girly" flare a little with my blackish/grey ripped jeans. Feminine and tough is the anthem of this look!

IMG_0055.JPG

Last but not least, I'm brining my new cold shoulder top. I actually purchased it and the shorts together as one outfit idea, but I can always dress it up with the black jeans and midi heels. My hoop earrings from Anthropologie add the perfect little spice.

IMG_0056.JPG

Workout clothes... MAJORLY IMPORTANT. If I don't bring a few outfits specifically for the gym, I know I'll use it as an excuse to not go. I have leggings and shorts and a few tanks and tees (not pictured...) Yes, I'm going to workout in my vans. Yes, I know that's not the best for your feet, nor will it necessarily be a contribution to my athletic performance. However, they're the best meet-in-the-middle I currently have for fashion meets gym wear. There are a plethera of better options out there that are great for your workouts but also look cute for after gym hours, however I unfortunately have not purchased any yet. SO, my vans are my workout shoes these couple weeks, and they'll have to do!

IMG_0057.JPG

I'll leave you with one... more... picture. What's inside my traveling tote bag? My 1964 custom molds, sunglasses, reading glasses, clutch which contains my wallet, lipstick of the day, lotion, mints, etc. and my brown zip clutch which quite honestly contains a whole lot of random crap. About 6 different lipsticks, my phone charger, pens, church invite cards (I promise I ain't over-saved), apple ear phones, and a miniature can of dry spray shampoo are all stuffed inside that brown clutch. It might sound cluttered, but at least all the randomness isn't strewn across my tote bag. And that's my secret to living and traveling in a tote bag.

That's a wrap! How I do packing the creative, stress-free way. I picked out my favorites, stayed logical, and narrowed down my shoe options (which was tough, but will definitely pay off.) My suitcase is pretty lightweight for two weeks of travel, especially for a fashion guru, and that's an amazing feeling! If you're thinking of creating a styled capsule, go for it! No regrets.

Denim For Days

Timeless, impactful, and dynamic are all words that find themselves synonymous with denim. Popular since the 1800s, denim speaks for itself in the timeless department. From work clothes to street style, it's worn a multitude of hats over the years. And nowadays, it's literally being worn as a hat! Because of all of denim's unanimously great qualities, it's the star of my blog this week. Let's dive in!

Sometimes I'm a "dresses and skirts" kind of girl and other times I'm a "pajamas sneakers donuts whatever is most comfortable" kind of girl. Anyone feel me? That's why I didn't throw on just ANY skirt and top combo for this outfit... I met both my girly-girl and tomboy needs with an effortless denim skirt and classic denim button down. It's elevated, but not exactly "I work at a law firm" either.

I bought the denim skirt for a stellar price at Nordstrom rack (the land where dreams come true) back in February. It's gone down in history as one of my favorite purchases to date, since I can easily dress it up or down. Band tees, stripes, sneakers, heels... the list of possibilities is endless. Bonus--all the pockets are real, thank the Lord! Fake pockets are evil pretenders. The touch of fray around the edge adds a complimentary "relaxed" feel, while the fitted nature of the skirt still gives it that elevated look.

Four score and one hundred years ago, I purchased this denim button down at, you'll never guess, Forever 21! Not only has it's durability been head-nod worthy, but it STILL looks brand new. Because their clothing isn't necessarily known for lasting, I'm not too crazy over Forever 21. BUT, I do advocate certain purchases from the shop. While I don't trust tee shirts and most blouses to continue looking the same four weeks later as when I first bought them, I do trust jackets and denim. Almost every jacket I have purchased from the store I still own and love! All it takes is a little extra love and care than you normally give your other clothes (i.e. always hang it back up, air dry it, take care of stains immediately, etc.) This denim top was an absolute score, so I highly recommend going on a Forever hunt to find one for yourself!

These. Shoes. When I look at these shoes, I imagine burning every other pair of shoes on the planet because this pair deserves to be the only one in existence. (Not really though, boots and sneakers are cool too.) Recently I went into Ross to see if they happened to have a belt I needed. Of course I was tempted into glancing over the shoe aisle as well, and behold! The perfect summer shoe. Black suede midi heels. They fit like a glove, and are totally comfy, especially for heels. I mean c'mon, I'm jumping like three feet off the ground in them! Since that day I've worn them about 472857263758 times and plan on wearing them an infinite amount more. $17 never looked so good! Of course these little heels were my careful finisher of the outfit because I was a little more than slightly obsessed with them (and still am... don't worry, I'm getting help :). Target also carries an almost identical pair, so if you have no luck at Ross, visit Target! They're so worth stalking down. Denim on denim is classy and effortless all at the same time, and I highly encourage a closet with a few different denim options. Skirts, tops, jeans... whatever you fancy, go on a denim hunt and bring home denim you can wear for days! Post your finds on Insta with the tag #denimfordays and let's spread our ideas together! Greetings, Earthlings

I'm over the moon excited to be displaying my life and passion in two of my favorite ways: clothing and writing! I dress to express, and I write to express. Whether I'm costuming myself for an on-stage performance or selecting an outfit for a chill day of coffee drinking and songwriting, I've put thought and heart into my outfit of choice. Because I've fallen so in love with the creative task of contouring an array of attire for me to function and exist in, why not have an online pageant show that empowers you to do the same? Here lives my favored trends with a personal twist, an ensemble of necessary classics, and a fresh perspective on all things accessory. I'm your best friend who will let you steal from my closet any day, and I'm not saying that I'm BETTER than your best friend, but... nothing in MY closet is off limits... so, you're welcome :-) Here we go!

Concerning jewelry, simple and sleek are the statements of the season. Whether we're talking a stack of gold midi rings, a dainty silver necklace, or a rose gold bracelet, any pieces that appear as more of an ear-perking whisper to the outfit instead of an outfit-hogging scream are the ones that tell the season you really know what you're doing. The gold bands I'm wearing hail from a crafty Etsy shop, "Lindseyvee." Aren't they perfect?

Not only are there multiple pre-made phrases and words readily available for order, but you can customize these bracelets with whatever your heart desires! A quote, coordinates, single word, or even symbol are all acceptable designs. The multi-talented model and photographer above, Tatianna, laced her own bracelet with the pretty words "Grace to Grace." Of course, she also ordered one with the word "Swaggy," cause why the heck not?

Paired with the dainty gold bracelets are two silver rings, customizable in both size and words. Of course I was singing "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw during the shoot because one of the rings has "Courage and Kindness" etched on it. In all honesty, anytime I hear the words "humble" or "kind" my brain goes straight to that song. Now I'm listening to it as I write. Does this count as a half time break? Well, back to the game.
